Comic to premiere in magazine in Fall 2006
July 11, 2005, San Diego, CA -- Disney Adventures magazine is adding a new comic to its stable of original and Disney-inspired content with Starlight Runner Entertainment's "Team GoRizer." The fighting robot action story targeting boys ages 7 to 12, created by Jeff Gomez, CEO and president of Starlight Runner, will debut in Disney Adventures in Fall 2006.
Jeff Gomez will be at Comic-Con and available for interviews Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17th. Please contact Melanie Scharler (212.633.5957), or stop by the Disney booth #2729 to schedule an interview with Jeff or a Disney Adventures editor.
"Team GoRizer" tells the story of Danny Rizer, a 14-year old boy from Queens, NY, whose normal life is turned upside down when he discovers that he is a super-powered robot designed to take control of the world. The emphasis of the comic is on slam-bang super hero action, however there are a number of themes and incidents drawn from Gomez's own years as an inner city teen, forced to confront bigotry and alienation after moving to the wilds of suburbia.
"We are pleased to bring 'Team GoRizer' to Disney Adventures," said Jesse Post, comics editor. "It's an action-packed story with rich and universal themes of belonging and actualization, and it centers on a handful of characters that Jeff cares a lot about. 'Team GoRizer' is a great addition to our current featured comics."
"'Team GoRizer' will be the first completely original property from Starlight Runner to see a mass audience, and I could not be more happy," said Gomez. "To do this with The Walt Disney Company, and to have my characters and stories share comic book pages with 'Finding Nemo,' 'The Incredibles' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is absolutely thrilling."
Most recently, Gomez co-wrote and produced the computer-animated feature "Hot Wheels World Race" with Mainframe Entertainment, and he invented persistent worlds for Hasbro's "Magic: The Gathering" and Acclaim Entertainment's "Turok Dinosaur Hunter" video games.
Starlight Runner is also responsible for developing the world of "The Black Belt Club" with author Dawn Barnes, Hand Picked Films and Gravity Entertainment. The franchise is based on Scholastic's best-selling book series and will become a computer-animated feature co-written by Gomez.
